Summer Adventures Await

As the warmer months roll in, Dunedin comes alive with vibrant colours, longer days and exciting activities! Whether you’re a local looking to rediscover some of the magical corners of your city, or are coming for a visit and eager to explore, here are some experiences you’ve gotta know about this season.

1. Strawberry Matcha at Catalyst

Did you know that matcha provides a calmer energy boost compared to coffee? How about starting your day with a refreshing and unique beverage? Catalyst’s strawberry matcha has been a seasonal/personal favourite, served over ice and perfect for those warmer days! Pair it with one of their mouthwatering cabinet treats (We tried the carrot cake 😍) or a hearty breakfast, and you’re set for a day of adventure.

2. Take a wander through Dunedin’s Botanic Gardens

A stroll through the Dunedin Botanic Garden is an absolute must during spring and an afternoon destination throughout summer. As the oldest botanical garden in New Zealand, it boasts a stunning array of blooming flowers, native plants, a thriving greenhouse and serene landscapes. Bursting with colour during this time of year, pack a picnic, find a sunny spot, and let the tranquility of being surrounded by nature wash over you!

3. Indulge in High Tea at Larnach Castle

Transport yourself to a bygone era with a luxurious high tea at Larnach Castle. New Zealand’s only castle, is perched right in our backyard on the stunning Otago Peninsula. The castle offers breathtaking views of the harbour and glorious green gardens. Sip on delicate teas and enjoy a selection of sweet and savoury treats while soaking in the grandeur of this iconic landmark. Round out your visit with a wander through the lush, manicured grounds!

4. Take a scenic trip with Dunedin Railways

For an unforgettable journey, hop aboard one of Dunedin Railways, scenic train trips. The Taieri Gorge Railway offers spectacular views of rugged landscapes, winding rivers and dramatic viaducts, making it a photographers dream. It’s a relaxing way to experience the natural beauty of the Otago region while learning about its fascinating history. Whether you’re travelling with family, friends, or solo, this is a quintessential Dunedin experience.

5. Get outside and enjoy some of our local walking tracks and iconic coastline

Check into our recent reels for some ideas on walking tracks and coastal destinations right in our backyard, and head out on an adventure through the trees or along some of Dunedin’s stunning Peninsula. You might even spot some albatross, penguins, and seal lions this time of year!

Bonus trip for a perfect day in Dunedin.

  • Check out the local Saturday markets: Dunedin’s farmers markets are brimming with fresh produce, artisanal goods, and delicious food options.

  • Catch a sunset at St Clair beach: End your day with a leisurely walk along the strip, followed by dinner at one of the beachfront restaurants.
